Binder Optik donates several thousand pairs of glasses to “Brillenweltweit”
At Binder Optik, we not only focus on our customers and employees, but also assume social responsibility as a family business. For example, Binder Optik supports the “BrillenWeltweit” campaign, which has been ensuring that used glasses in developing countries benefit people in need for over 40 years. Recently, the Baur family once again handed over several thousand pairs of functional glasses to “BrillenWeltweit”.
“In Germany, almost two thirds of all people now wear glasses. As both eyesight and fashion tastes change, many of them buy new glasses every few years. The old model then either ends up in a drawer or in the bin, while in other countries many people can’t afford glasses at all,” explains Dominic Baur, Managing Director of Binder Optik GmbH. “Being able to see well is a privilege and a prerequisite for education and work. Unfortunately, not everyone has this privilege.”
In many poorer countries, glasses are very expensive and cost several months’ wages. Many people are therefore unable to afford glasses. But if you can’t see properly, you can’t get a job.

Those who cannot read the blackboard or the exercise book have less chance of an education. For many, not having a job or education means living in poverty. “This vicious circle needs to be broken. That’s why we regularly support ‘BrillenWeltweit’ with our glasses donations,” says Dominic Baur.
