Award-winning degree
The city of Aalen is not only associated with Binder Optik, the company ZEISS, which produces its lenses there and has its own large specialist store, but also with Aalen University. For 20 years, the university prize of Binder Optik GmbH has been awarded there for outstanding final theses in the optics/optometry course. This year, the prize went to 24-year-old graduate Maria Zinser for her Bachelor’s thesis on “Problems and opportunities of visual training in Germany with extensive research on the current status”.
Author demonstrates commitment and perseverance
Visual training is a long-term training program that is relatively unknown in Germany for the treatment of visual disorders that cannot be solved with glasses. As part of her scientific work, Maria Zinser conducted numerous surveys and examined various studies. The result of her research: Visual training can help to improve symptoms such as double vision or reading difficulties.
However, training in Germany is not yet fully developed. Due to the lack of awareness and ongoing development, there are many different approaches and no standardized system yet.
The extensive research and detailed interviews in particular contributed to the extraordinarily high value of the bachelor’s thesis. As a logical consequence, Maria Zinser was finally honored with the Binder Optik University Prize 2022 for her outstanding scientific work. The award ceremony took place on October 24 at the Innovation Center at Aalen University. The prize, endowed with EUR 2,000, was presented by Senator E.h. Consul General Dr. Helmut Baur, Managing Partner of Binder Optik GmbH. The prize is awarded in particular to motivate and promote young talent and to support innovation and further education.
