Open your eyes: For good vision on dull fall days

Especially at this time of year, good vision is crucial for getting through traffic safely. Fogged-up lenses, diffuse lighting conditions, reflections on wet roads or bright sunshine on bright snow should be avoided, especially for the more than 40 million people in Germany with poor eyesight. “Poor vision in winter doesn’t have to be a problem,” says Melanie Baur, eyewear expert and store manager at Binder Optik. She gives valuable tips for good vision on cloudy days.

Strength check: eyesight should also be tested for light
Melanie Baur advises using the approaching dark season for an eye test at the optician. She explains: “Changes in visual acuity usually occur slowly and are only noticed by spectacle wearers when their vision has already deteriorated dramatically. For this reason, the correct prescription should be checked at least once a year. In our almost fifty Binder Optik stores, eye tests are free of charge for our customers.” Another advantage: at Binder Optik, an eye test is possible without making an appointment and without long waiting times.

For more clarity: anti-reflective coating and high definition glass

Darkness and headlights, plus wet conditions and snow: a dangerous combination that is also accompanied by strong reflections. Anti-reflective lenses filter such light reflections and reduce reflections on the lens surface. “Another recommendation from an expert’s point of view is glasses with high definition lenses. “The lenses enable even more precise vision than with conventional lenses thanks to the increased depth of field,” says Melanie Baur from Binder Optik.

Polarized lenses: For good vision on wet roads

The sun is very low these days. This is particularly critical and unpleasant for people who wear glasses. Expert Baur urges caution: “In combination with water surfaces, for example on wet roads or even snow, strong glare can occur. Polarized lenses can help here, as they completely prevent glare.”

Well equipped: (Progressive) contact lenses

We recommend the addition of contact lenses for sports enthusiasts and those who go to the mountains in winter. The risk of accidents is much lower than with glasses. Contact lenses also offer greater comfort. They do not mist up and are insensitive to snow and ice. “My tip: get advice. We’ll measure your current eyesight, determine which lenses are right for you and practise putting them on together on site if you’re not yet used to it,” says Melanie Baur. A particular highlight at Binder Optik are the varifocal contact lenses, which provide people with defective vision with optimum visual performance at any distance. This pays off not only for athletes, but also for working on the PC, going to the theater, driving or reading a book. “If you’re still not sure whether contact lenses are the right choice, you can try them out for free – even without an appointment,” explains the expert.
