Glasses for a good cause
While many of us take it for granted to wear glasses if we have poor eyesight, people in developing countries do not have this privilege. Glasses are very expensive in these countries and cannot be afforded on the low wages of many people. People in need who cannot afford glasses automatically have fewer opportunities for education and work due to their visual impairment. To help these people, Binder Optik has been supporting the “BrillenWeltweit” campaign run by the Deutsches Katholisches Blindenwerk e. V. for years. The organization collects old glasses in good condition and sends them to non-profit organizations around the world. These give the glasses to people in need free of charge. In this way, people who urgently need a visual aid are helped and used glasses are reused in a way that conserves resources.
The campaign is also doing good in Germany: numerous long-term unemployed people are involved in the project and clean, repair, measure and pack the glasses. “BrillenWeltweit” integrates people into their future working lives and gives them a new perspective.

Making a contribution together
Binder Optik regularly donates old glasses from customers as well as new items to the campaign. This year, 2,500 pairs of glasses have been collected and are on their way to their new owners. Do you still have used glasses at home that you can no longer find a use for? You can hand them in at any time in our specialist stores for a good cause and give your glasses a second life.
