Our commitment to species conservation.

Tortoiseshell is obtained from the horn scales of the back shell of certain sea turtle species. For this reason, the animals were hunted to make, among other things, spectacle frames from the tortoiseshell.
As the protection of species and nature has always been close to our hearts, the Baur family has been campaigning for the protection of sea turtles since the 1980s and was instrumental in getting the trade in turtle shells banned.
Save the turtles.
The married couple Brigitte and Günther Peter, who witnessed the brutal slaughter of sea turtles during a vacation on the island of Bali in 1981, founded the “Save the Turtles” campaign in the same year and, in 1986, founded the Aktionsgemeinschaft Artenschutz (AGA) e.V. with committed supporters, including the Baur family.

Commitment to this day.
AGA projects range from the protection of turtle nests by gamekeepers, school visits and action days to the replacement of nylon fishing nets with cotton alternatives, which are more visible to the animals and can therefore be avoided.
The animals are still threatened with extinction due to bycatch, illegal wildlife trade, pollution of the oceans and disruption of nesting behavior. Binder Optik therefore supports the AGA with a project sponsorship.
