    The history of Binder Optik begins in 1975. On August 1, Gabriele and Dr. Helmut Baur opened the first specialist store in Böblingen with a master optician.

    Together with Aktionsgemeinschaft Artenschutz e.V., Binder Optik successfully fought to ban the production of tortoiseshell frames in the German optical industry. To this day, Binder Optik continues to campaign for the protection of species.

    More road safety

    Around 300,000 road accidents per year are caused by poor eyesight, according to estimates by the German Ophthalmologists’ Association. However, good vision is a basic requirement for safe participation in road traffic. Dr. Helmut Baur founded the “Stiftung Deutsche Sehhilfe e.V.” (German Vision Aid Foundation) to raise awareness of this issue.

Our first website presented the latest eyewear fashion for prescription glasses and sunglasses and provided valuable information on contact lenses and the latest technical developments in lenses.

    “Radio. Catches your ear. Stays in your head.” The first Binder Optik radio commercials from the Step Advertainment studios had exactly the same effect as the Radiozentrale claim. Sung advertising messages that always ended with the legendary stuttering “B-b-b-bin bei Binder”. Caught the ear. Stayed in your head. To this day. There’s hardly a Swabian cab driver who doesn’t know our claim.

    Investment in education

    We maintain a particularly close relationship with the Aalen University of Applied Sciences. Since 2006, we have sponsored the Binder Optik university prize for the diploma course in ophthalmic optics and the part-time Master’s course. The prize is awarded to graduates with outstanding scientific work in the field of ophthalmic optics and optometry.

    116 million people have severely impaired vision simply because they do not have glasses. Eighty-nine percent of them live in the world’s poorest countries. The “BrillenWeltweit” association provides those in need with glasses in good condition. Since 2019, Binder Optik has been supporting this initiative for a better quality of life.
